Valeska ehf was founded in Dalvík in October 2009 by Óskar Óskarsson and Lilja Björk Ólafsdóttir. The company was originally established to provide unloading services for Samherji’s trawlers in the Eyjafjörður area. Subsequently, the company began manufacturing pallets to provide additional work for unloading staff.
Valeska took over the unloading of trawlers for Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa in Akureyri, and in the same year, the company also began handling frozen landings from the trawlers Oddeyrin and Snæfell for Samherji.
Valeska and Samherji took over the operations of Fiskmarkaður Dalvíkur, which they now run under the name Fiskmarkaður Norðurlands, with locations in Dalvík, Grímsey, Árskógsströnd, Hrísey, Akureyri, and Hafnarfjörður.
Valeska acquired the company PE Plastsuða ehf, which specializes in repairing plastic fish tubs. Subsequently, a cooperation agreement was made with iTub to handle all repairs of the fish tubs that iTub rents out in Iceland.
The owners of Valeska acquired the company Löndun ehf, which had previously handled the majority of unloading services provided in the capital area, specifically in Reykjavík and Hafnarfjörður.
The owners of Valeska acquired the company Vörubretti ehf, a well-established family business involved in pallet production, as well as timber importation, including both pallet materials and hardwood imports for the aluminum company Rio Tinto.
The companies Löndun, Vörubretti, and Valeska merged under the same registration number and the name Valeska.
At the beginning of 2025, KAT ehf and Valeska ehf will merge into one company under the name KAT ehf. All operations will take place under this new company.
